Amitriptyline or Elavil prescribed for Fibromyalgia has insomnia effect in Chronic Lyme suffers

Many 5.8 million people are diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. In most cases Amitriptyline or Elavil is prescribed in low doses for the drugs unique ability to produce "deep sleep". Essential in healing. It is also being tied to increased T-Cell production and anti inflammatory qualities. The positive effects of this drug may be far reaching.

But for people with Chronic Lyme Amitriptyline or Elavil frequently produce insomnia or disorientation. This may due to the unique neurological conditions that Lyme produces. Amitriptyline inhibits serotonin and noradrenaline reuptake almost equally. Noradrenergic dysfunction might be a key component of chronic intractable pain disorders. Serotonin normally reduces the intensity of pain signals sent to the brain.

One Lyme suffer was quoted as saying, "Elavil; it was like an Alice in Wonderland trip for me. I was literally walking into the walls when attempting to get to the bathroom. I know another woman who has Lyme, same thing...awful, and never again! I told my llmd my experience and she said others have had similar outcomes."

Fibromyalgia may be misdiagnosed Lyme disease or the patient may suffer from both disorders simultaneously.
