I never quite get this interest in famous people. I am very sorry they are sick but their Lyme is no more interesting or important to me than say your Lyme. Now when president Bush had Lyme that was interesting to me because he make choices for the nation and Lyme is a neurological disease.
But I finally got it a few weeks ago. A friend of mine who is an emergency room doctor had to take his girlfriend to the emergency room because she had glass in her eye. She makes stained glass windows for a living and wasn't wearing her goggles. Oops. He wanted me to go along. So I went - to 'his' emergency room at 'his' hospital . I was sitting in the waiting room and pulled out a granola bar. He shook his head at me. I had already looked for a "no eating " sign and there where none to be found. I said, "We are going to be here a while, I need to eat." He said, 'please don't.' I found this odd. I said "don't worry it came out of my purse and it hasn't touched any surfaces, its clean." He scowled at me and started reprimanding me - "You don't understand I have to work here with these people and they think things about people who show up at the hospital and eat - dragging along all their filthy kids who don't wipe their noses and who will never pay their bill." I said, "I'll just step out side." I went outside and ate my granola bar but I really needed to excuse myself because I was disgusted with my friend. He was calling the sick, the poor and the hungry - filthy and making them seem low. He even went so far as to insult their children. My friend was the typical white ivory tower snotty doctor and I never saw it before. I haven't spoke to him since that day. I need to figure out how I feel about things first.
So I think that's why people want to know that famous people have Lyme. They want to say; "see it doesn't just happen to the average or the poor or the dirty. I happens to famous people too. Making the disease random and not about lifestyle choices, poverty, insanity or morality.
So here is the list of famous people with Lyme. But even with out them know that - You are not alone, you are not dirty or low. You are just sick. Your Lyme matters just as much as a famous person who has Lyme.
