We believe in kinder, safer mental healthcare.

Needing acute support for mental ill health shouldn't be a prison sentence. At First Do No Harm, we know first-hand how horrific psychiatric institutions can be and we believe wholeheartedly that there is a bettter way to support those in need.

Background to FDNH

First Do No Harm came together following the release of a series of media reports by The Independent and Sky News detailing iatrogenic harm at psychiatric hospitals run by Active Care Group, formerly The Huntercombe Group. You can learn about the history of Huntercombe on our Background page.

What's next?

We're developing the H.O.P.E Approach, a kinder, compassionate and safer way of supporting those in need of mental healthcare which is built on the foundations of lived-experience voices and stories. You can learn more about our approach here.

FDNH People.png
Equal people, equal balance of power: there is no authoritative difference between the people in need of support, and the people delivering and guiding this support; the only credible and appropriate difference between professionals and people in distress is the ability to acknowledge, understand and respond to a person’s needs and distress.

The H.O.P.E Approach, People.
